Star Trek Attack Wing

Today saw a couple of runs at Star Trek Attack Wing. My wargaming friend ran the games. I was the Federation Commander up against my Klingon Foe.
I was attempting to win a mission called Assassination.

For the mission I chose the USS Enterprise, with her consort USS Hathaway.
The Enterprise was under the command of Captain James T Kirk. The Hathaway under the command of Captain Obadiah Lee.
The USS Enterprise (NCC-1701) wass a 23rd centuryFederationConstitution-classstarship operated by Starfleet. In the course of her career, the Enterprise became the most celebrated starship of her time.

The USS Hathaway (NCC-2593) was a 23rd centuryFederationConstellation-class starship operated by Starfleet. This ship was launched in 2285 from the Copernicus Ship Yards on Luna, and was equipped with Avidyne impulse engines.
USS Hathaway closest to the camera was under the command of Lt Cdr Spock. Captain Kirk was at a Federation meeting, along with Captain Lee. The Enterprise was temporarily under the co…

Campaign Teaser - Invasion

Five of us will embark on a new campaign at the end of September this year.
This teaser article hints at the subject matter......

In a green and pleasant land, life goes on as normal despite the long war.

A national pastime continues. Bringing a comforting air of permanency and familiarity.

British summer is built around the sound of leather cricket ball whacking against willow bat (or clattering into one’s stumps!),

Another over begins and this tranquil scene is perfect cover for a clandestine meeting between military leaders.

Bernard Montgomerlee, Bertram Williams and Omar Greaves discuss the plan to cross the channel....." You are about to embark upon the Great Crusade, toward which we have striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you. The hopes and prayers of liberty-loving people everywhere march with you. "
Their first decision is agreeing which one of them will be senior commander.
Meanwhile, across the sea. A man waits patiently for the Allies to come. Ever…

Wings of Glory - mini map campaign

A couple of weeks ago (16th June), we played a mini air campaign using the computer software called Berthier. My opponent played the Allies in the run up to the Normandy invasion.

A B25 is despatched to bomb a factory complex

The plane approaches the target.

Bombs away....missed
That same day, B17's are sent to bomb an infantry formation, protecting the so called ' Atlantic Wall '

The target

The approaching bomber...

Unfortunately the bombing was not accurate.
As night fell, RAF Bomber Command sent a Lancaster to attack a suspected radar facility. A night fighter flew ahead to clear a path through any likely Luftwaffe night fighters.
The Lancaster - 'Grogs the shot'

The night fighter sweeps ahead.

And swings by just as the bomber drops her deadly cargo.

Direct hit!
The Luftwaffe failed to intercept any of the raids, and now they have lost a coastal radar facility. The USAF also needs to tighten up on its bombing accuracy.
A nice play test of the system - which also threw up some…

Star Trek Ascendancy

Today three of us got together to lead Star Trek civilisations in an epic battle of galactic empire building.

The Federation faced off against the Klingon Enpire, and the Romulan Star Empire (try saying that with a lisp).
We have played several games before, and each one has resulted in a different game experience. I think it is an outstanding game that captures the essence of the Star Trek universe.
I have currently pre-ordered the two additional expansion's, which will add the Cardassian and Ferengi to the mix.

One of my friend bears an uncanny resemblance to the Ferengi.

Earth is protected by a mighty federation fleet.

It wasn't long before the Klingons had built a fleet, which found itself sitting menacingly close to the Federation border.

Meanwhile, the Romulans had also brought a 'mining' fleet close to the Federation border. This resulted in them 'convincing' a Level 3 Warp civilisation to join the Star Empire.

The evolving map is a key game play feature, and is…
